Tashbih as a Prayer Rosary:

The most widely use of Tasbih in Iran is as a prayer rosary. Similar to other religions, Moslems in Iran use Tasbih to keep track of their prayer chanting (Number of times a prayer phrase is repeated).

Tasbih for Estekhareh

Persians and to some degree Moslems use Tasbih to seek God's guidance in making decisions. In this process, the person would make a wish or think of the matter at hand and then select a portion of tasbih. Then one bead is pulled away from each side and repeated till no bead is left (Good Choice, Yes, Go ahead, Good Decision) or a single bead is left at the end (i.e. Bad choice, No, Do not proceed, Bad decision). As such, the prayer beads (Tasbih) plays a practical role in every day life as well. This process is called Estekhareh. For very important issues, people may ask a holy man, a moslem priest to perform the Estekhareh for them to improve the chance of divine guidance.
