PREFACE
Most available Christian books in Persian are translations and intended
as
tools for evangelism. It is the contention of this publisher that
additional material is needed to assist Persian Christians in the
deepening
of their faith. In particular there is a need for publications which:
- (a) Explain Christianity with specific reference to the national
identity
and religious culture of Iranians, to truly inculturate Christian faith
in
Persian experience and counter the suggestion that Christian faith is a
Western or foreign aberration.
- (b) Uncover the importance of Christianity in Iranian history,
especially
its presence and influences on Persian poetry.
- (c) Provide devotional material in Persian to aid prayer,
contemplation
and the deepening of Christian spirituality.
SOHRAB BOOKS is a small publishing house founded in 1990 to meet these
needs. It was initially funded by the donations of friends to mark
Bishop
Dehqani-Tafti4s retirement. All Sohrab Books are written, translated or
edited by the Bishop.
Payment
SOHRAB BOOKS is a non profit making enterprise whose finances are
handled
by the Church Mission Society.
Cheques or money orders should be made payable to CMS. Sohrab Books in
either sterling or US dollars. Bank details are available on request
for
direct payment.
