Subject: ICCSD's position on social issues
Dear Cyrus;
Greetings and thank you for your question regarding our position on social
issues.
The best literature for explaining our social position or any other kind of
position is the Bible itself. Your question is too broad so we can only
answer it in general terms.
In general, our position regarding any issue is what the inerrant,
infallible, and inspired Word of God, the Bible teaches.
In regard to governments and those in authorities, the Bible says:
"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no
authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist
have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the
authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so
will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who
do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of
the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. For he
is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does
not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to
bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to
the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of
conscience. This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's
servants, who give their full time to governing. Give everyone what you owe
him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then
respect; if honor, then honor." ( Romans 13:1-7 )
"Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient,
to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and
considerate, and to show true humility toward all men. At one time we too
were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions
and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one
another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he
saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his
mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy
Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our
Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs
having the hope of eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying. And I want
you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be
careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are
excellent and profitable for everyone." ( Titus 3:1-8 )
"Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at
all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John replied, "Judge for yourselves
whether it is right in God's sight to obey you rather than God. For we
cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard." (Acts 4:18-20)
"I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and
thanksgiving be made for everyone-- for kings and all those in authority,
that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and
to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator
between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for
all men--the testimony given in its proper time. And for this purpose I was
appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not
lying--and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles." (1 Tim. 2:1-7)
Based on these biblical commands every Christian is supposed to:
- Honor those in authority
- Respect them
- Pray for them
- Obey them as long as it does not contradict with obedience to Word of
God, The Bible.
People, societies, and nations are changed for the best through the
transforming power of the Holy Spirit which we receive, by repenting from
our sins and putting our faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and
Saviour.Political upraising is not the answer.
